Babylon |
Monday night i went to my first Erasmus social. Apparently there had been a social before, but i just recently discovered the 'Portsmouth University Erasmus Socials 09/10' facebook group. A great group!
We first went to a pub called The Trafalger. It's a bar with a lot of space where you can drink and eat something downstairs - perfect when you just want to sit and talk to people - and party upstairs (mostly with a live DJ). When i arrived with Ben and Gaëtan, everybody was already sitting in groups so we couldn't really be social. But after some time we started to find empty space between people and started to make a conversation with them. I even found a Belgian boy! His name is Benoît and he lives in Waterloo. Although he lives in Wallony, he surprisingly also speaks a bit of Dutch. But it didn't really matter cause we try to speak English to each other. After all we're all here to improve our English.
After the Traf we went to Babylon. When we arrived i immediately noticed the words 'Never forget the 90s' at the sign of Babylon. I love the 90's! And i love Babylon too. It 's a stylish retro bar with a lot of pictures of artists from the 90's hanging against the walls. There were also hanging big screens with music clips from, indeed, 90's music! Think about Run DMC (It's like that), Lou Bega (Mambo no 5), Spice Girls and many more.
The theme of the day was 'Hawaiian Beach Party' so there were girls wearing straw skirts and there were (annoying) beach balls flying around the room. I regretted that i forgot my hawaiian flower necklaces, but i had a cute dress with little flowers on so i did fit in a little bit :)
