Upon us all a little rain must fall...

rainy day

“Welcome to the Real England”. The weather drastically changed into a rainy world. The tiny little shorts and skirts where you can almost (or sometimes you actually do) see the English girls' butts, were now replaced by tick warm jackets and pants or skirts with stockings beneath it.

It immediately made me think about the amazing song called ‘The Rain Song’ from Led Zeppelin, one of the greatest English bands in the world. I say one because there are so many great English bands! The Beatles, The Clash (from which the song and album 'London Calling' inspired me for the titel of this blog), Pink Floyd, Queen, Muse, Blur, The Rolling Stones, Sex Pistols, Black Sabbath, Eric Clapton, Deep Purple, The Cure, The Libertines, Babyshambles, Joy Division, Oasis, Cream, The Who, Coldplay, U2 (although they are from Ireland), The Smiths, Fleetwood Mac, Dire Straits, Radiohead, Editors, The Stone Roses, David Bowie ... - god i just love English music! (A lot of American bands too but lets not talk about that now, i'm here to teach you more about England)

Back to The Rain song. It would be a shame if you don’t know this song, so if you don’t you should look it up NOW! Speaking of ‘rain songs’, there are two more you need to check, from two great women! And by those I mean Garbage – Only Happy When It Rains – and Heather Nova – London Rain. Heather Nova, also an artist from the UK, has such an amazing voice! If you don’t know her you should definitely check the song called ‘Like Lovers Do’.

To continue with lovers, I would recommend everyone to listen to ‘For Lovers’ from Pete Doherty and Wolfman (not from The Libertines like most people think). I have read the book ‘Pete Doherty, Last Of The Rock Romantics’ and loved it! Still do. I secretly hope I bump into Pete while I’m in England.

To end this rainy message with a 'sunny note', check the English band The Animals and their song 'House Of The Rising Sun'. Hope you enjoyed this short lesson about English music :)
