CARNAGE baby!

Erasmus & Carnage go well together

Yes, even parties on a Sunday! Probably because Carnage takes over an entire street full of clubs which are very busy during the week. Carnage, for those who doesn't know, is voted as UK's best student event from 2004 till 2008! It's a fancy dress student event done all over the UK in 45 cities. You visit the best bars and end up in the biggest one for a massive club party. To get in in all these clubs you have to buy a tshirt of Carnage (see picture) which normally costs 10 pounds. To make the tshirt more attractive you can cut it or add accessories which fits the theme. The theme for today's event was Beauty and the Geek. Most girls were dressed up like geeks with big glasses and sexy suspenders and most boys were dressed up like "beauty's" (well actually more like drag queens but at least they tried). Also a lot of the girls had cut their tshirt but mostly way too much which led to the fact that you could see the bras of more than half of the girls in the room. But that doesn't surprise me anymore.

The tshirts were especially useful to write on. I regret that i didn't take a marker with me (so tip for future carnage participants: bring a marker with you!! if its possible in multiple colours). But a lot of people had taken one with and soon everyone's tshirt was full of funny and less funny words and drawings. Most people also used the markers for the famous 'alphabet game'. It means that you have to write all the letters of the alphabet on your arm. Then you need to find for each letter a girl (or boy) which names begins with one of the letters. If you can kiss her/him on the mouth (or do more), you can cross out that letter and find a new girl or boy. If you kiss your ex you can cross out the letter X. They really try to make a record of it, to cross as many letters as possible. But carnage is indeed the ideal place to do it, everyone seemed rather willingly that day...

I first went to Alex's place to meet him, Benjamin and Gaƫtan. There we called a taxi to bring us to Guildhal Walk. The great part is that it doesn't even cost more money to call a taxi and let it come to ur place to pick you up! So it's really easy and cheap to use taxis in Portsmouth. In Guildhal Walk we had access to 4 great clubs: Walkabout, Club 8, Fuzzy Duck and Route 66. We only went to the first three cause we'd been in Route 66 many times and stayed a bit too long in Club 8 while the music and atmosphere there was really good. I even found geek glasses which made me fit in with the English people. English people really love to dress up actually. So a big tip for future Erasmus students is to make sure that you take a fancy dress (=costume) or something like that with you to Portsmouth. A Hawaiian necklace, something UV and geeky glasses are good examples.

Carnage ended in Liquid & Envy, the biggest night club of Portsmouth. This time i loved the music they played there. Indie & rock songs like Sex on Fire, Basket Case and Chasing Cars. Some older but really good ones like All That She Wants (Ace of Base) and Are You Gonna Be My Girl (Jet). And even dnb! Which i really really liked. They even know Pendulum! Although they had to play a censored version of Blood Sugar: "Okay, F*** ("beeeeep") it, I lied, it's drum and bass... what you gonna do?!" Good thing the night ended with dnb, cause it made me tired as hell. For once i didn't mind it already ended at 2am (especially because it already started at 7pm).
