Guy Fawkes |
"Remember, remember the Fifth of November! The Gunpowder Treason and Plot. I know of no reason Why the Gunpowder Treason Should ever be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, t'was his intent To blow up the King and Parli'ment. Three-score barrels of powder below To prove old England's overthrow;
By God's providence he was catch'd With a dark lantern and burning match. Holloa boys, holloa boys, let the bells ring. Holloa boys, holloa boys, God save the King! And what should we do with him? Burn him!"
Maybe some of you remember these words from a high school English lesson... Well as the words say, Guy Fawkes was a member of Roman Catholic restorationists from England who planned the Gunpowder plot of 1605. He wanted to blow up the House of Parliaments, during the State Opening on the 5th of November, but failed. The English people celebrate this day as Guy Fawkes Night or Bonfire Night and light up bonfires everywhere, mostly accompanied by fireworks. (source: wikipedia)
And that's all i'm gonna say about it, because i didn't make this blog to teach you some English history. But at least you know now why you see a lot of bonfires and hear a lot of fireworks on this day ;)
